The Thousand Islands are a flood tide delta deposit, formed in the past by a breach in the barrier island by a strong storm surge. This natural occurrence created a maze of narrow trails & canals through the natural mangrove islands and hidden hammocks.
The spectacular canals through the Thousand Islands provide shelter to herds of Manatee, playful Bottle-Nose Dolphin and a variety of coastal birds. Some of the birds passengers may observe while on this tour are Reddish Egret, Wood Stork, Rosette Spoonbill, Brown and White Pelican, Bald Eagle, nesting Osprey, Great Blue Heron feeding their young, Tri-Colored & Black-Crowned Night Heron, Snowy Egrets, White Ibis, Crested Cara-Cara, Peregrine Falcon, Brown Headed Nuthatch, Bachman’s Sparrow, Red-Cockaded Woodpecker, Terns and Coots.
The Indian River Lagoon flows into the Cocoa Beach Thousand Islands. The Indian River Lagoon Estuary is known as one of the worlds most diverse eco-systems.
